The Mephisto Piano Duo consists of the successful pianists Katrijn Simoens and John Gevaert. Since their debut in 2007, the duo has harvested international success at prestigious competitions as well as on the concert stage.

The duo won the 1st prize and all special prizes at the 11th edition of the International Concours Grieg in Oslo for piano four hands (2010), the 1st prize and the special prize at the 5th edition of the ‘Concours International de Piano à Quatre Mains’ in Valberg (2010), the Friends’ prize at the 11th International Chamber Music Competition in Almere (2011) and the 2nd prize at the 15th edition of the International Music Tournament in Paris (2012).

They met at the Conservatory of Antwerp, where they studied with Levente Kende and Heidi Hendrickx. Afterwards they perfected themselves at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Jan Wijn and Willem Brons.

The duo is praised for their technical brilliance and an exceptional sense of color. They have been invited to prestigious festivals, among others the KlaraFestival, the Grieg Festival in Oslo and the 'Chamber Music Session' festival in Kiev. In addition, the duo has performed in renowned venues such as the Lyon Opera, the Palace of Versailles, the Palais des Beaux Arts and La Monnaie (De Munt) in Brussels, deSingel in Antwerp and the Concertgebouw Brugge.


They have given several performances of Francis Poulenc’s Concerto for two pianos and orchestra, together with Casco Phil - the Chamber Orchestra of Belgium, conducted by Benjamin Haemhouts. In the 2019-2020 season, the duo works with the renowned Dutch dance company "De Stilte". Together they present the dance performance "Cinderella" with their own arrangement of Prokofiev's ballet for piano four hands.

Their debut album with works by Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner was released in 2013 on the Klara label in cooperation with EMI Music Belgium. Their second album with works by Röntgen, Rosseau and Tinel was released on the Phaedra label in 2015.
